"pkg del -a" includes selecting all the FreeBSD-* base packages for deletion. Such deletion would not be appropriate. This is an example of one area where being able to easily select to operate on just port packages would be a good thing. Other contexts might lead to wanting to easily select to operate just on base packages. Some of this includes just informational outputs, such as "pkg info -f -a" being too much output, much of it not of likely interest because of the mix. "pkg info -f --all-base"?
