>Description:
I tried printing the FreeBSD Handbook, but the screenshots don't show up on paper. The file is book.ps.gz, 2531465 bytes, from Apr 5 04:01.
E.g. the screenshot on page "18" (34 of 601) is completely missing. I am certain this is not a "page protection" or similar problem, the laser printer has 136 MB of RAM. Similarly the PDF document cannot be opened from acroread 4.05-5 (white pages and wrong page count by factor of 10).
The problem pages appear to be displayed correctly for a split second but then are rendered a second time but without the screenshots.
>How-To-Repeat:
I tried to print from a Debian (testing) and Windows machine.
Printing using gv 3.5.8-26 and ghostview 1.5-27: no screenshots
Printing using xpp 1.0-3.1: no screenshotsPrinting using printer's internal PS capabilities: no screenshots
Opening book.pdf using acroread: fails to load
Opening book.pdf using Windows: Acrobat 5 will not load document ("There was an error processing a page. There was a problem reading this document (109)."
Converting book.ps to book.pdf using Distiller: still no screenshots
>Fix:
Recreate handbook, use newer/other/better PS/PDF converters, maybe use PDF 1.3 as output format.
