Well, I don't see it at the moment, but I assume you mean
'FATAL: can't open md1' or some such.

What is the version of your devices.c in src/release/sysinstall?
Note that 4.1-RC1 doesn't suffer from this problem.  I suspect your
sources are out of date or have a stick tag.
