This is also true for a lot of the newer cards. A while ago the Xfree86
team made the decision to spend their energy on 4.0 instead of 3.3. For
a good period of time, the only things that got in 3.3 were bugfixes.
4.0 has new drivers, and for a lot of older hards, hardware acceleration
and other goodies. Now that the big push to get 4.0 out the door is
over, I expect they'll go back and add in support for cards they didn't
have time for.

I consider the XFree86 team to be the unsung heroes of Open Source.
Everyone knows the names Linus Torvalds and Richard Stallman. Most folks
know the names Bill Jolitz and Kirk McKusick. But no one knows the names
of the XFree86 developers. They are the purest of the Open Source crowd:
not for money, ideology, academia or fun - they do because it's there.
