On the topic of disabling OpenSSL during make world;

I note the existence of knobs to have sendmail build against certain 
components installed from the ports tree.

I also note (although I might be misreading the makefiles) that if world is 
build WITHOUT_OPENSSL, many components of seem to build without functionality 
(do correct me if I'm wrong).

If one chooses to override the base system's installation of OpenSSL/OpenSSH, 
would there be issues (besides reliability of the build, which is a caveat 
emptor) with putting similar knobs in make.conf to use OpenSSL libraries 
installed under /usr/local instead?
