Once I got the system installed (required the hint.uart.1.at fix) the same sluggish native keyboard behaviour with vt0, vt1 and vt2. This rules out the O/S, but may have something to do with the T16 BIOS, or the AMD Ryzen CPU. Using an external USB keyboard worked as expected -- no delays.
