Been that way for years, ever since I started supporting a SCO box
oh these many years ago with a UUCP mail link. (System administration
in the small company at the time was more than enough motivation to
go to graduate school. Where I'm admining Lixia Zhang's machines. :-)

Getting an nsswitch.conf-ish type file might not be such a bad thing
and would consolidate some of the current set of hacks.
