I'm getting the folowing errors when starting a variety of aplications.
They seem somehow related, but I can figure out how to fix them.

When starting gnumeric:

Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library
Can't resolve host name "unix"!

*** NOTE - my hostename's not "unix" and it does resolve, if that matters.

when running "which foo:"

perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:
        LC_ALL = (unset),
        LC_CTYPE = "en_US",
        LANG = (unset)
    are supported and installed on your system.
perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C").

and several variations of the above..

HELP!

thanks in advance,
Wayne
