I recently made my FreeBSD laptop the gateway for my small office network. Prior to that I used my Windows 98SE machine as the gateway and found it to be a bit problematic. However, since I switched to FreeBSD as my gateway I am unable to successfully ftp into another FreeBSD web server which before was no problem. My FreeBSD gateway laptop: FreeBSD 4.7-PRERELEASE #0. The FreeBSD web server: FreeBSD 4.6-RC #0. I am able to log in via ftp, though when I execute any command that allows me to view the files, the server just sits there eventually timing out. It doesn't matter whether I'm in passive or active mode as you can see from the sample below: $ ftp rsci.com Connected to rsci.com. 220 rsc-web1.rsci.com FTP server (Version 6.00LS) ready. Name (rsci.com:XXXX): XXXX 331 Password required for XXXX. Password: 230 User dpaule logged in. Remote system type is UNIX. Using binary mode to transfer files. ftp> passive Passive mode off. ftp> ls 200 PORT command successful. 425 Can't build data connection: Operation timed out. ftp> Is there a firewall in my FreeBSD gateway machine that could be causing this problem? Any help is appreciated. Thanks:) David Radovanovic WhatsTheBigIdea.com, Inc. -- Bright ideas for the Web! 121 Ulster Avenue Saugerties, New York 12477 (845) 247-0909, FAX: (845) 246-3880 http://www.WhatsTheBigIdea.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-newbies" in the body of the message
