there was a bug that could cause this. it was fixed some time ago in
sys/dev/sound/pcm/dsp.c rev 1.15.2.7 for -stable, 1.34 for -current.
if it still happens and you have compiled your kernel with sources dated
after 2001/03/14, a bug report would be nice.
