Yes, when you have time, please post the output of dmesg (after a
verbose boot) and your Xorg.log.

Can you try (from ssh) to run components one by one, for instance:
    1. from one shell, start "Xorg"
    2. from another shell, run "DISPLAY=3D:0 xterm"

And see if something show up?

I believe that amd64 is tested a lot more than i386 nowadays (note that
it's just a feeling, not a fact). I'm not aware of any problems with
X.Org+amd64 which never occur on i386.
