all of the snapshots since the 24th have exhibited this same or
very similar behavior.
when booting from the kern & mfsroot floppies i get:

i only get this on my vaio (PCG-XG9); several other pc's i
tried these boot floppies on boot and run sysinstall just fine.
none of my other test boxes have USB though.
