Section 3.11 of the handbook, Devices and Device Nodes reads, "A device is a term used mostly for hardware-related activities in a system..." I wonder if "activities" is the appropriate word there. Perhaps something like "hardware related items"? I don't know if I have a better suggestion, but activities struck me as odd.
