Well, do the profiled libraries automatically get installed when installing
a release? Looking at the date in the directory tree, it seems as if the
4.4-RELEASE install on my machine installed them, but any make worlds no
longer updated them, as I also have NOPROFILE=true set in make.conf.

So, I guess since these libraries are not useful for anything, I could well
delete them, right? On the other hand, the probably also wouldn't do any
harm (except wasting disk space) if I just left them around, I guess...
