 its part of GNU libg++.  from memory the libio libs are less restrictive in the
 licensing than the libstdc++ stuff.. oh.. i can't remember :)

 try linking with libg++ and see how you go.

 PS.  how about that binary/source release of netatalk for fbsd-current?
