Is vinum yet reliable? > I tired it a view times (for R5) long time ago and had no success. I don't know about a problem with vinum and -current (I have one -current system with a vinum-stripe). The only drawback: you can't use a vinum partition as a native swap partition (failure tolerant swap by mirroring), but since your scenario doesn't include such a setup, I don't see a problem (and even then: create an ufs partition and configure a swap file on it). Vinum isn't GEOMified yet, but work is underway to do this.
