Ack.  Approximately where is this in the handbook (i.e. section number)?  
I have a hunch it's in the hardware picks?  

This is yet another bogosity of the linuxdoc DTD and conversion system.  
:(  You have to use &dollar; instead of $ in running text or LaTeX gets 
tripped up  :( :( :(  <grr>

Another argument for automagically genarting postscript on 
freefall---these sorts of things would get caught within 24 hours of 
being made.
