The UPS does not appear to work; I stopped apcupsd, and apctest cannot open the device. Clearing the sysctl makes the messages start again, but apctest does not work. Unfortunately, I did not try apctest before setting the sysctl. Booting with debug.acpi.disabled="usb" did not seem to change anything: the messages continued, apcupsd complained about losing communication, and apctest didn't work. hw.usb.disable_enumeration=1 still stopped the messages, but apcupsd still complains about lost communiction.
