I have a few thoughts on Nick's email ...

1. It would indeed be a really good idea to capture
in the man page whatever the heck it is that the lucent
cards do. Possibly if we combine everyone's knowledge
on this mailing list ... we MIGHT be able to figure that out. :->
I was left wondering if Lucent has got both the 2 known
"major" modes (call them what you will ... say IBSS and
managed), and has two variations? Plus throw in rts/cts,
and the AP/power mode.

2. more generally it would be useful to figure out how
802.11 works (in terms of packet mechanics) and possibly put that somewhere as well ...

In the hopes of weeding out the permanent confusion that exists.
# 2 smacks of a FAQ.

Nick, I will help with the man page if desired.
