The following reply was made to PR kern/31460; it has been noted by GNATS. From: Nate Eldredge <neldredge@hmc.edu> To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, juha.o.ylitalo@nokia.com Cc: Subject: Re: kern/31460: ATAPI CD-ROM makes system reboot with DVD movie. Date: Mon, 21 Jan 2002 20:18:11 -0800 [BTW, I think the title of this pr is a misnomer. It's not merely an ATAPI CD-ROM but actually a DVD drive in my case, and apparently in those of the other posters. So it's not an unreasonable thing to expect to work.] I also am experiencing a problem much like this. I have the DVD of the movie "Moulin Rouge". I mount it on /cdrom1. If as an ordinary user I then do cd /cdrom1/video_ts cat * >/dev/null the kernel panics almost at once. I can send tracebacks or cores, or do further testing; just ask. It seems to be reproducible (I'm 2 for 2 so far). IMHO this deserves to be treated as a security problem; it allows an ordinary user to panic the kernel and crash the machine, which is Not Good. I'm using 4.4-RELEASE, and the DVD drive is IDE. -- Nate Eldredge neldredge@hmc.edu To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-bugs" in the body of the message
