[-- Attachment #1 --] hi. i bought freebsd and ive been trying to install it on my machine. i run an amd 1000MHz processor with a 40G hard drive. the problem ive been having over and over is 'no free inodes' when i try to install all the packages from the 1st cd rom in the set. after trying to have it live on the last 20Gs of space, and having no luck getting it to boot back there, i moved it to the front 20Gs. if i try to install all the packages there, i get 'no free inodes' i did get it up and running once, from a standard install. im also having trouble getting it and windows 2000 to like being on the same disk. your boot manager doesnt seem to see beyond a certain point. it lists windows 2000 as ??? when i go to boot. if i try to choose ??? to boot into, with windows 2000 on the last 20G, it wont let me. if windows 2000 lives in the first 20G, and BSD on the last 20G, windows is still listed as ???, i can boot into it, but then i cant boot into BSD. i'm running the 4.0 release. granted i'm not 100% sure of every step i'm taking with BSD since i'm new to the whole *ix scene, but i wouldn't think a 650MB cd could fill a 20G hard drive. That would be some awesome compression... 30:1 by my calculations, so i'm sure somethings wrong. i'm going to try to install 4.2 here in a bit. i'm kind of bummed. i paid 50$ for the BSD and 0$ for windows 2000 server, and windows is the only OS i have to write you this email in so far. thanks jerry [-- Attachment #2 --] <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" http-equiv=Content-Type> <META content="MSHTML 5.00.2920.0" name=GENERATOR> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=#ffffff> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>hi.</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>i bought freebsd and ive been trying to install it on my machine.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>i run an amd 1000MHz processor with a 40G hard drive.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>the problem ive been having over and over is 'no free inodes'</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>when i try to install all the packages from the 1st cd rom in the</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>set. after trying to have it live on the last 20Gs of space, and having</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>no luck getting it to boot back there, i moved it to the front 20Gs.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>if i try to install all the packages there, i get 'no free inodes'</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>i did get it up and running once, from a standard install.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>im also having trouble getting it and windows 2000 to like being</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>on the same disk. your boot manager doesnt seem to see</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>beyond a certain point. it lists windows 2000 as ??? when i go to boot.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>if i try to choose ??? to boot into, with windows 2000 on the last </FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>20G, it wont let me. </FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>if windows 2000 lives in the first 20G, </FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>and BSD on the last 20G, </FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>windows is still listed as ???, i can</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>boot into it, but then i cant </FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>boot into BSD.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>i'm running the 4.0 release. granted i'm not 100% sure of every step</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>i'm taking with BSD since i'm new to the whole *ix scene, but i </FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>wouldn't think a 650MB cd could fill a 20G hard drive.
