In case you haven't noticed, I'm not really serious about all this. There's a good reason (based in the mechanics of the human eye) to keep text lines at below 80 characters, but if you indent them, it's the length from beginning to end that counts, not the distance from the left margin to the end. But this is really a good reason to have less violent indentation.
