The excuse for lame IDE drivers is that people who have IDE devices don't write many drivers... or they wouldn't be lame. Anyone with hardware who is not happy with the hardware support they are getting should feel free to code up replacements. I personally do not run IDE, nor will I buy IDE simply to enable me to write drivers to enable someone else to run it.
