I had this same "problem" yesterday upon searching the mailing list
archives it seems as if 3.1-STABLE becomes 3.2-BETA while in transition to
3.2-STABLE (I would imagine this is why there is the ports freeze and
such)

If this is incorrect I am sure someone will slap me around...

Though I am curious how long it stays BETA as It seems beta is more of a
cooling off period...
