Well, it seems you know a great deal more about this IRC stuff than I
do, so I'm happy if you decide whether the patch has a chance of
working, and if it's worth testing.
From the sounds of it it hasn't and isn't, so I'll silently duck back
into my little corner and place the patch in the bit-bucket :-I
