I was fine for about a week with two active drives, then I tried to add a 3rd
drive to replace one that had died and to bring my zpool back to full health. 
I then started getting timeouts again before the resilver finished.  I then
started getting errors one of the two original drives even when only booting
with two drives, so disabling hotplug was not a silver bullet.
