The printer text filter scripts from handbook (chapter 7. Printing)
should be also installed in /usr/share/examples/lpr
e.g.
/usr/share/examples/lpr/if-simple - Simple text input filter for lpd
/usr/share/examples/lpr/hpif - filter for lpd for HP-PCL based printers
/usr/share/examples/lpr/psif - Print PostScript or plain text
on a PostScript printer
