multimedia/dvdrip is a frontend for transcode that can save you from dealing
with transcode's incredibly fuzzed up CLI for most standard ripping +
encoding jobs. However, you will need to take care that you compile transcode
with the right switches, the defaults yield a mostly crippled transcode. My
personal recommendations for optimal usage with dvdrip are:
WITH_XVID= YES # Allows to encode with the xvid codec
WITH_FFMPEG= YES # Allows to encode to ffmpeg codecs such as mpeg4
WITH_LIBA52= YES # You NEED this, since without it transcode cannot decode
# AC3 audio tracks.
WITH_OGG= YES # Enables you to create ogg-media streams instead of AVIs
WITH_SUBRIP= YES # Enables the subtitleripper-portion of transcode.
