Find articles/books, and install a free unix OS. Go to the newbies page, 
mpc.com has some (old) free books, do a few searches, and so on. Some 
people have said its good to read from the questions list, but personally 
I think its better to get some knowledge under your belt before you 
subscribe (thus understandable). Read the news (slashdot, daemon news), and 
places like freebsd rocks and the freebsd diary.
