If I right understand you I have more chanses with USB adapter
Frankly speaking PCMCI do not works well under -CURRENT on my=20
SONY VAIO PCG-z505s

Insert/Edject card freeze machine 100% guarntee, so only option
to boot with card inserted - in this case it works.

This happens both NEWCARD and OLDCARD, -STABLE and -CURRENT
My cbb is cbb0: <RF5C475 PCI-CardBus Bridge>

Days ago (times of 4.3/4.4) it works well both under current and=20
under stable.=20

May be you have some ideas ?
