DEVFS_ROOT does not exist in the SLICE/DEVFS code so obviously you are
not running the SLICE/DEVFS code.

Me but not what is checked in that has severe bitrot..
Since you won't let me check in the final product,
obviously you need to get the patches to make it work from:

no it's just that DEVFS_ROOT id deprecated and you need to have
the SLICE code and devfs fixes instead.
