My preferred method is by filtering through procmail. It's a simple
procmail recipe:
# pass through spamassassin
:0fw: spamassassin.lock
| /usr/local/bin/spamassassin
(where the "w" flag tells it to continue procmail processing after
running the message through spamassassin)
