I also just dug out my slimscsi 1460B and tried it on my 4.0-S Sony
5050TR. Seems to work perfectly. I cvsuped last on May 13th, which is
before the time you're having trouble with.

Looks like a local problem.
Sorry I can't offer more advice as to exactly _what_ ...
