It may be true that some people have mail readers that wrap on word boundaries, others don't. My netscape just shows one line about 7 screens wide, and I have to scroll across with the scroll bar to read a long line which is a pain. PINE on the other hand wraps it. (I think nescape has an option to make it wrap too, but then ASCII art gets destroyed.. you can't win.) anyhow it's not that there is a RULE about shorter lines. It's just polite. In a mailing list always assume that the person best able to help you may be reading mail across a modem from an ascii terminal.
