Have you checked this? Is your clock synchronized with an NTP server? For the pkg_add part, solution is simple: either change PACKAGESITE from Latest to All, e.g. export PACKAGESITE= ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/i386/packages-6-stable/All/ (or setenv PACKAGESITE ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/i386/packages-6-stable/All/ if you use csh) and repeat your command: pkg_add -r xfig-3.2.5 or simply, without changing your PACKAGESITE, do: pkg_add -r xfig This will get you the latest package. The "Latest" location in the FreeBSD FTP server contains links to the latest build packages. You don't add version numbers in this case. In fact a quick look in the FTP site suggests the latest version is xfig-3.2.5.a5_2
