I get 
IOZONE performance measurements:
        5144042 bytes/second for writing the file
        5756362 bytes/second for reading the file

with this flag on a Western Digital AC22500.

It increased the dd if=/dev/wd0 of=/dev/null throughput
from ~3 mb/s with no flags to ~4 mb/s.
