You could try to boot the installation cdrom from the console. That's how I
installed 4.2RC1 on my NoName box. Use show dev in SRM to find the devices,
then boot from the cdrom device.

Dumb question of course, but are you sure it's the FreeBSD/alpha image and
not the FreeBSD/x86 ISO image?
