I wasn't aware of this with rc. No problem. In some ways I wish it were more flexible, but I have no desire to make it so. Hopefully it's not too self-serving to say that you might want to look at net-mgmt/hawk to see how I fixed this problem, with an eye towards making sure that we support users who choose not to (or cannot) use the /usr/bin/perl compat symlink.
