Hello everybody. I have a stupid question for you :) Is the clock in bhyve virtual or just a hook the host? I mean, should I run ntpd inside the VMs as I would do, let's say, with VMWare, or is it enough to run it on the host? -- Andrea Brancatelli From owner-freebsd-virtualization@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Mar 15 18:34:15 2014 Return-Path: <owner-freebsd-virtualization@FreeBSD.ORG> Delivered-To: freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) (using TLSv1 with cipher ADH-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 31797B40 for <freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org>; Sat, 15 Mar 2014 18:34:15 +0000 (UTC) Received: from mail-pb0-x230.google.com (mail-pb0-x230.google.com [IPv6:2607:f8b0:400e:c01::230]) (using TLSv1 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-RC4-SHA (128/128 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 08E5D872 for <freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org>; Sat, 15 Mar 2014 18:34:15 +0000 (UTC) Received: by mail-pb0-f48.google.com with SMTP id md12so3984679pbc.7 for <freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org>; Sat, 15 Mar 2014 11:34:14 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20120113; h=mime-version:in-reply-to:references:date:message-id:subject:from:to :content-type; bh=jgrKY4n0N+bSWTjx3/TpYIp41IXKNt2x7+KzZEyqrEM=; b=eBEgtFY22jlX3HAanagKSU2TjXAYy1weesH51dfe5zAWzkrCdiUl2DrvMJHgXoKJGf +hZxwyc2LPIHWYqTGgtb6eelK7RLI5kElIJtB7WH9kP7e0P4AOHknybf7+ncBQPgPhVw cvaJ+x1Xorlo7Zllx+LtI68u+Bmg7HOlJ3qlFOHpMuhG4htVdaqI/tHBCGVihwL2nadJ oDsQoPhwOKy/09XiXu0sgmQnrsZXsYM2N+1R6jb2d3xKecl6Q80FL0pX0QkOid9N3v1u DwycZ0Yc07HXr7eNj0X9CpP87Sm2RB0XcqEpMv0dJqTzt8fbpuJ1F5icBEPd26Newt3T rClw== MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Received: by 10.68.13.42 with SMTP id e10mr16307716pbc.118.1394908454604; Sat, 15 Mar 2014 11:34:14 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.68.155.38 with HTTP; Sat, 15 Mar 2014 11:34:14 -0700 (PDT) In-Reply-To: <766b303ae006c121f8bebe077193e4fa@schema31.it> References: <766b303ae006c121f8bebe077193e4fa@schema31.it> Date: Sat, 15 Mar 2014 14:34:14 -0400 Message-ID: <CAGBxaX=Zm1YsMp7sd=u5ZQxAQ=dLpDKpFjcmdjr9oLE_gSQzTw@mail.gmail.com> Subject: Re: Clock in bhyve From: Aryeh Friedman <aryeh.friedman@gmail.com> To: Andrea Brancatelli <abrancatelli@schema31.it>, "freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org" <freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.17 X-BeenThere: freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.17 Precedence: list List-Id: "Discussion of various virtualization techniques FreeBSD supports." <freebsd-virtualization.freebsd.org> List-Unsubscribe: <http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/options/freebsd-virtualization>, <mailto:freebsd-virtualization-request@freebsd.org?subject=unsubscribe> List-Archive: <http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-virtualization/> List-Post: <mailto:freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org> List-Help: <mailto:freebsd-virtualization-request@freebsd.org?subject=help> List-Subscribe: <http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-virtualization>, <mailto:freebsd-virtualization-request@freebsd.org?subject=subscribe> X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 15 Mar 2014 18:34:15 -0000 Yes there is always a time drift on a guest/instance... in specialized cases it makes sense to modify the instance by requiring it run ntpd.... but if it is general purpose and for general "public" (whatever that means in your context) instances it is likely to turn people away to know that they are required to take a Red Pill.
