First off, your best bet for this sort of question is
questions@freebsd.org.  There are all sorts of people there who will
be happy to help you.  We here on -doc actually discuss writing
documentation.  But, you couldn't know that right off.

Yes, you can read your files with FreeBSD.  There's a discussion of
this, as well as other migration concerns, in the introductory section
of the FreeBSD FAQ.  You can get there from the main FreeBSD web page,
http://www.freebsd.org.
