I've found in recent years that "balanced" is a meaningless term as the capacity of the drives is MUCH greater than needed, and the drive will reach I/O saturation at a point before it's near full... so my spools don't necessarily have to run at 90% cap. :-) However I will point out that you definitely want alt.binaries* on a separate disk or ccd device. ...
