I found this out the hard way. Aside from the kernel hacks mentioned 
previously, you must edit epson.conf because command-line arguments cannot
override what's in epson.conf (i.e. they can't tell the driver to use USB 
rather than SCSI). It may still be necessary to specify the device on the 
command-line, though.
