Actually the older lpt driver wasn't removed, just pushed out of the way.

If you use

    device          olpt0    at isa? port? tty irq 7 vector lptintr
-or maybe-
    device          olpt0    at isa? port? tty

and remove the 'lpt' associated with the 'ppc' you will get the older
one.
