I'm not very clear, but this information maybe help. I'v met similar
situation, but what was I used is a CR-574-b, it worked well under NT,
but FBSD 2.2.2 could not find it. I noticed the CDROM jumper, there's 
not any connector there, the CDROM is at auto-apply mode. I put a
connector on "master" jumper and the CDROM test succed.
