Argh!  No no no no.  Doesn't anyone read LINT?

#makeoptions    KERNEL=foo              #Build kernel "foo" and install "/foo"

I just put:

makeoptions	KERNEL=kernel

in my /sys/i386/conf/MYMACHINENAME file and installkernel installs my fresh
kernel into /kernel no problem.
