well, after a very long time, i have found time to install freebsd 3.2-release
on that compaq machine ... well, that should i say, i worked right out of the
box. i used the two 1.44 mb bootdisk and even when not disabling unneeded
device drivers, freebsd boots without any problem.

there may be a problem on the old compaq machines, if some network card use
irq 9, so using this interrupt should be avoided.

 current configiartion:
 compaq prosignia 486 w/pentium overdrive
 88 mb ram
1x adaptec aha-2742T scsi host adapter (w/floppy diabled)
1x adaptec aha-1740 scsi host adapter
 2x 3com 3c579 etherlink iii NICs

i am using softuddates and vinum (one volume striped over four disks, one
volume mirrored, 2 disks) and the system runs stable, therefore i think this
 problem report can be closed.

 so long,
 olli
