First, lets narrow this down. Could you comment out everything from
the line,
echo 'Checking setuid files and devices:'
To,
# Show changes in the way filesystems are mounted
Then run the security check. Does it work now?
Just how many directories are in /var? Could you give us some more
hints on how to reproduce the problem?
