I had a similar problem with a maxtor drive awhile back when I was switching it from BSD/OS to FreeBSD.. I believe I ended up downloading the 'low-level format utility' from maxtor's web site to get it working again. Maybe IBM has a similar tool available. I am using the IBM drives on both 2.2.6 and 3.0-CURRENT without any problems.. although the drive was added to the 2.2.6 machine after it was installed. Best of luck, Jon FreeBSD fuqin.degenerate.org 2.2.6-RELEASE FreeBSD 2.2.6-RELEASE #0: Sun Oct 25 13:44:33 PST 1998 jon@fuqin.degenerate.org:/usr/src/sys/compile/FUQIN i386 wdc0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7 irq 14 on isa wdc0: unit 0 (wd0): <Maxtor 85120A8> wd0: 4884MB (10002825 sectors), 10585 cyls, 15 heads, 63 S/T, 512 B/S wdc0: unit 1 (wd1): <IBM-DHEA-38451> wd1: 8063MB (16514064 sectors), 16383 cyls, 16 heads, 63 S/T, 512 B/S FreeBSD cruel.degenerate.org 3.0-CURRENT FreeBSD 3.0-CURRENT #0: Mon Nov 30 17:17:58 PST 1998 jon@cruel.degenerate.org:/usr/src/sys/compile/CRUEL i386 wdc0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7 irq 14 on isa wdc0: unit 0 (wd0): <JTS Corp.
