Of all the gin joints in all the world, I had to walk into mine 
and say:

Nevermind. He's mounting the filesystem using NFS. There's no point
in thinking too hard about NFS file locking the way things are now. :)

I'm going to try fixing the problem with _yp_dobind() this weekend.
