I'm trying to figure out why X11 is using so much memory on my workstation. Here is the output from 'top': PID USERNAME PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU CPU COMMAND 236 steve 2 0 215M 210M select 1 435:16 0.05% 0.05% XFree86 215MB seems like alot to me. OTOH, this is a dual 1.8Ghz Xeon box with 1GB RAM so I'm not losing any sleep over it. However I am curious to know if this is normal or indicative of some memory leaks in applications. My current environment is Gnome2, although the number doesn't decrease drastically with Windowomaker either. +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ |Steve Wingate <s.wingate@cox.net> |MCSE, CCNA Mon Nov 11 09:59:00 PST 2002 +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ |FreeBSD 4.7-RC | 9:59AM up 23 days, 10:31, 2 users, load averages: 0.11, 0.07, 0.02 +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
